The University at Buffalo athletic department has announced facility renovations to the wrestling complex, the first of such upgrades since Alumni Arena opened its doors in 1982.
On Nov. 5, 2011, the official unveiling of the wrestling room's $350,000 renovation project was held, and dedicated in the name of legendary UB wrestling coach Ed Michael. The team practice area has been enhanced with natural light through the addition of windows along the facade to go along with new wrestling mats. Another major upgrade is the addition of an on-site fitness center equipped with state-of-the-art athletic machines used for training and rehabilitation, allowing the coaching and training staff to improve the fitness and well-being of the student-athletes.
One area in the new complex will be named after former captain Jeff Parker, who lost his battle with cancer in May 2010. The official name for the space will now be the Jeff Parker Student-Athlete Lounge.
The Wrestling Room is the daily practice facility for the UB wrestling team. Conveniently located adjacent to the wrestling offices, the wrestling room is an area set aside exclusively for the wrestling team to practice in throughout the year. Match competition during the season takes place in the main gymnasium of Alumni Arena.
